DIY Painted Clock: FAIL

If you thought the back seam on my curtains was bad, wait til you see this….

I’ve really wanted a cute clock for our cute patio, but I don’t like any of the outdoor clocks I’ve seen.  I thought maybe I could just take a super simple one and paint it to my liking…  And these are the types of thoughts you have when you’ve been on Pinterest too much.  ANYthing seems possible, even when you have no skills.

I found a clock on sale at IKEA for $2.  Worst case scenario, I’m not out any money.  Wise choice on my part. Here are the materials I used:

Paint Sponge
Acrylic Paints
Painters Tape
Measuring Tape & Pencil (Although I didn’t really end up using these, just eyeballed the measurements)
Chocolate

I mixed my colors and taped off where I wanted my stripes.  By this point, I was
worn out enough to justify eating the chocolate.

I started painting.

After two coats, I let it dry and then peeled the tape off.  But the tape had proven itself useless.
It wasn’t sticking to the clock well enough to make perfect stripes.

I tried using nail polish remover to clean up the edges, but it didn’t help much.  I almost didn’t care.  I was going to hang it outside just the way it was.  But then I noticed the paint starting to peel off.
Like the nail polish you wore as a little girl.  Just full strips of orange, practically falling off the clock.

So I had fun peeling that off for a little while and then I decided this was a stupid project anyway.  Maybe Stevie’s room could use a white clock.
