DIY Thanksgiving Centerpiece - AKA The Thankful Tree

So I guess Thankful Trees are a thing now.  I had passed one up on Pinterest and thought it was a cute idea. Maybe a blog reader or two haven’t seen these yet.  When I first decided to make one, I thought “Where can I buy sticks?”  (And that just shows you how my brain works.)  Then I smacked my blonde and put my noggin to work.  Oh right!  I can just get them in nature!  Duh.  So I ran over to Griffith Park and grabbed quite a few branches off the ground.  They had so many perfect shapes and sizes!

These delightful canisters are from IKEA.  Of course.  I swear my life should be sponsored by them.  Hi, IKEA!! I love you!  The canisters come in cream, teal or reddish-orange.  When it’s not Thanksgiving, they should absolutely be used for fresh flowers.

Supplies:

  • An armful of sticks/small branches
  • vase or canister
  • decorative paper
  • hole punch
  • fancy scissors (or regular scissors if you don’t feel fancy)

I don’t need to write out step-by-step directions right?  I mean, it’s pretty self explanatory.  The only other thing I would add is that a bit of twine or ribbon would be adorable to hang the tags on, if you wanted to take it one notch further.

This would make a great centerpiece or side table decoration for the Fall season and is a fantastic conversation piece as well.  Ours will be used on Thanksgiving weekend when my sister and nephew are here, so we can all write down what we are thankful for.  I ended up settling on the skinnier canister in the end because it just fits our small space better.  I didn’t want anyone at the dinner table gettin’ their eye poked out.  And let’s be honest, that person would probably be me.  Like pass the mashed potatoes – OWWWWW!!! Call 911.
