But Not Going After All

Ooooh, we had such a weekend planned!

For Stevie, it meant a trip to San Diego with his Tati, a two-night stay at his Hokur Tina’s house, swimming, eating and a day at SeaWorld to top it all off.  (Spare me the lectures on the Shamu stuff.  I wouldn’t dare talk his aunts out of this one!)

For Paul and I, it meant a movie, a night out with our friends, an overnight stay at the Ritz-Carlton in Palm Springs, eating, boozing, sunbathing, kissing and gambling.  Not necessarily in that order.  Gluttonous living at it’s best, just the two of us.  Ooooh, an actual getaway!  Imagine!

But we got ahead of ourselves.  Who do we think we are, trying to plan something so outrageous?!

About 30 minutes after Stevie and Tati hit the road, I got a phone call.  I assumed they had forgotten something, but instead Tati sighed “We got in an accident…”  Trust me, I was relieved to get the call from her and not the Highway Patrol.  They were fine.  No injuries.  OK.  Phew.

They were on the freeway when a car to their left lost control and spun into their lane, right in front of them, where a collision could not be avoided.  My car got an “owie” and is at the “car doctor” according to Stevie.

— causing a bit of traffic, that’s us on the left there —going-places-car-accident-01So yeah, it was scary and it kinda sucked.  But I really had no trouble seeing the positive side.  Obviously the fact that no one was hurt.  The fact that they were close to home and I was able to get to them easily. The fact that Stevie was a trooper through the whole ordeal.  The fact that our insurance agent is also a friend and could talk me through what to do next. The fact that maybe this accident happened to avoid something worse happening further down the road.  It felt like they were in the wrong place at the wrong time, but maybe it’s just the opposite.

And anyway, Stevie still had a great day with his Tati.  Paul and I still had a fun night out with some dear friends.  I got to watch a movie (or 3) uninterrupted.  I ended up getting kinda sick, and if that happened while we were in Palm Springs, I would’ve been reeeeally peeved.  So I guess it all worked out.

BUT HEY GUYS, ALL THAT BEING SAID, LET’S RESCHEDULE THIS ASAP, YEAH?

  1. Ouch for the car, great for everyone else. And a weekend of “gluttony” will still happen and you have something to look forward to! 🙂
