Midwest Trip: Days 4 + 5

Obviously things slowed down significantly in Madison.  Well, most things.  Stevie was still go, go, go and wanted to play on the stairs pretty much the entire stay.  Super fun for everyone, taking shifts catching whatever he felt like throwing down at the moment.  The stuff vacation dreams are made of, I’m telling you.

But really, we did get out and see a few things too.  My favorite part was walking on a frozen lake!  I’ve never done that before and I felt very courageous and risky for wanting to try.  I was super nervous.  Like really, really nervous.  With each step, my shoes would sink in the snow and I was convinced the whole lake was about to collapse beneath me.  So I walked gingerly – about 6 feet out – and then quickly ran back to shore. Not even one minute later, some show-off guy drove his 4-wheeler stacked with fishing equipment across the whole entire lake.

And we all just cracked up about what a wimp I am.

So I ran back out and jumped on the lake just to prove I was still courageous.

We also got to see the capitol and took Stevie to an incredible children’s museum.  Believe it or not, we ate more pizza.  But this one was homemade and vegetarian so it didn’t seem that bad for us.  And we threw in some Indian food for good measure.  We took a lot of walks.  I spent a significant amount of time trying to get Stevie to touch the snow too.  Come on!  Just touch it!  “No ‘now!”  I threw some at him.  We put Stevie to bed early each night and even managed to watch a movie.  That was nice.  Lots of visiting and chit-chat.  A really good time in a lovely town with some of Paul’s awesome family.
