Vegas Weekend

I can’t say this weekend was quite as relaxing as I envisioned it, but it was pretty fun!  We were together, but separate, enjoying our own things.  Like ships passing in the night.  Paul was in Vegas meeting with old friends.  I was in North Vegas with my sister.  And Stevie spent the weekend with his Mummi just a couple hours away in Southern Utah.

The only thing I was nervous about, leaving Stevie with his grandparents and cousin, was the sleep situation.  He’s a crappy sleeper and he has such a specific routine to be able to fall asleep, that I was worried nobody would sleep at all.  But they wore him out real good and his cousin read him bedtime stories and he crashed pretty hard.  I was relieved to hear that.going places, las vegas, weekend trip going places, las vegas, weekend tripgoing places, las vegas, weekend trip going places, las vegas, weekend trip

My sister and I basically spent the day in Vegas to do some shopping and see a show.  I also had the plan to eat a fancy dinner, but in typical me fashion, I forgot to make reservations.  In Vegas.  On the weekend. During summer.  So we ended up at a cafe.  But it was a cafe in the Venetian, so it was still kind of great. Then we saw the MoveLive Tour, which was fun and funny.  So many old people there.  I guess we were in the right place, seeing how hip we are (not).  I loved it.  Then we walked around the strip, late into the night, with giant ice cream waffle cones in hand.  Perfect.going places, las vegas, weekend trip going places, las vegas, weekend trip going places, las vegas, weekend tripgoing places, las vegas, weekend trip

The next day, we had a plan.  But we all know what happens when we make plans.  God laughs at us.  Or something like that.  The grandparents were supposed to drive up to Vegas and drop Stevie off.  But there was a terrible accident that closed the freeway.  So they sat in the car, waiting and waiting for it to open up. We were wasting some time in Vegas, but itching to get on the road because the drive home on a Sunday can be such a pain.

Eventually, the freeway opened up, but it was so late, that we decided to drive North a little bit and meet them in Glendale.  You know the stop?  With one gas station and nothing else? It served for a fine meeting/child exchange area and we visited for a little bit before heading in opposite directions.  Then, our car basically just sat in traffic for the next 8 hours.

Kids, there was a time in my day that you could drive from LA to Vegas in 4 hours.  But I’m here to tell you those days are over.  Long gone.  It’s the worst.
