Weekend in Vegas

I have been feeling pretty burned out.  For awhile.  No matter how many adventures Stevie and I had, or how many friends I entertained, or how many summer adventures were planned, all I can think about lately is how tired I am. And how much I want to cancel every therapy and appointment and just run away.  No offense to my darling boy, but it was reaching a point where I wanted to be as far away from him as possible.  Last week had many fights and frustrating moments.  Meltdowns galore.  From me, not him.  Well, him too.  But you get the idea.  Mama was losing it.

That is where a fantastic husband and a sister with a birthday come in.

My mom and I planned to surprise my sis with a little getaway for her 29th. I left the babe with Paul and my Mom left a suitcase in Krista’s room with a note. Told her to pack for 2 days, bring a bathing suit, and don’t ask any questions.  We leave at 11am.  The fact that my mom kept it a secret until the very end was a miracle in itself.

They started driving from Utah. and stopped at the usual In ‘N’ Out in Vegas for lunch.  And that’s where I was waiting.  My sister exclaimed “I was hoping you were part of the surprise!” Our plan had worked perfectly.

We spent the next two days at the South Point hotel.  You know, that big gold one you can see from the freeway, just before the strip?  They have a pool and a movie theater, and that’s about all we needed.  We did drive into the real Vegas to do some shopping (I can not be tamed) but then it was straight back to the pool. This trip also showed that when I am child-free, my #1 wish is to just go to a frickin’ movie.  So we definitely did that. Twice. All my dreams came true as I got to laugh hysterically while shoving popcorn in my face.  Then I farted rainbows all night long.  (Must have been from the popcorn.)

When I got home, I felt better.  And while I still wouldn’t mind canceling a therapy or two or seven, I can hang in there a little longer, thanks to the perfect refresher of a weekend. Even though none of us are huge Vegas people, you know what I mean, sis and I have decided it must be done much more often.
