Summer Capsule Plans and Ideas

Memorial Day is behind us and  temperatures are on the rise (again).  The official start of summer is just a couple weeks away!  So of course, I have my head in the clouds.  Daydreaming of my upcoming summer capsule wardrobe.

Admittedly, I get a liiiittle overly excited about these things.

And knowing that about myself, I’m trying to show some restraint.  Plan properly.  Not get too wrapped up in what I should wear, but be realistic about what I will wear.  In my brain, summer screams fun, fun, fun and tans and ice cream, but day-in, day-out I am still just a mom chasing a 4 year old, after all.

The other thing I have to take into consideration is that the “seasons” here in Southern California can be tricky.  Yes, 90 degrees is on the menu for next week.  But we also have a little something called June Gloom, where it’s dreary and cool a good chunk of the month.  September is when we have our real hot and sticky summer weather.

Keeping all that in mind, I think my transition from spring to summer will be gradual.  I may even hang onto my spring capsule a whole extra month to really utilize the last bits of spring and extend my summer stuff into early fall.  But that doesn’t mean I haven’t started my mental shopping list!  (There is one running through my head probably 80% of the time, truthfully).  So here are some things on my radar for summer:mom style, summer capsule, capsule wardrobe, minimalist wardrobehigh-neck swimsuit // graphic tank // cut-off shorts // sleeveless denim // wide-leg denim // culottes // midi dress // clogs // espadrille slides // tevas

I haven’t gone through my storage items yet or laid out my budget, so these really are just ideas and dreams swirling around my head at this point.  Y’all will be the first to know when any of them become a summer reality!

What’s on your summer shopping list?

  1. I love your pics…and find them so chic. I am on the hunt for some easy culottes. And would love to find some wide leg pants…which isn’t easy for this short gal!

  2. You know I was refreshing this since my eyes opened this morning. Love your picks-so summery and practical! Good call on the midi, because let’s face it a maxi isn’t always practical when going or having to get up and town from floor play a thousand times-hello!
Feel the same way about wanting certain things that are lovely but maybe not so wearable-like ankle wrap sandals. I mean how cute would they be with the midi dress, but would I really wear them to a play date? Love the wide leg trousers too!
Can’t wait to see the final collection.
