Summer Capsule Wardrobe Update

We are more than 1/2 way through the summer season and I kind of can’t believe it.  School starts Monday!  Wait, whaaaaat?!  As far as clothes are concerned, however, this doesn’t mean a whole lot.  Plenty of hot days still lie ahead of us here in Southern California.  September is usually a scorcher!  It might cool off by Halloween only to warm up again for the holidays.  Which makes it nearly impossible to get in the Christmas spirit.  But since that is still months away, and these are merely predictions, let’s talk about where I am right now.

mom style, summer capsule, capsule wardrobe, minimalist wardrobe,NOT WORN YET: Within the first few weeks of my Summer Capsule, I already knew a few things had to go.  Either the fit was wonky or it just didn’t reflect the style I’m aiming for.  The orange skirt and pink dress out of storage were first on the chopping block.  But I was most surprised that I haven’t worn the denim dress or the New Balance sneakers yet.  They were favorites in past capsules, but they’ve been left out of rotation completely for summer.  The leather jacket?  Who saw that one coming?  It’s just plain too hot.

ADDED: I was very hesitant about adding more rompers and overalls to my summer capsule because I already had some in there.  And how many is too many?  But rompers… they’re just kinda my thing, I think.  I can’t get enough of them.  So if they bring me happiness, then bring ’em on, right?!  The white overalls are from Asos and the blue/white romper is quite old from Anthro (same designer).  You’ve seen the sleeveless chambray get lots of use in other posts and those red Birkenstocks are the most wonderful, ridiculous shoes I have ever owned.

SWAPPED:  A worn out tee for a shiny new one.  It’s so soft!!

MOST WORN: I am pleasantly surprised at my staples this season.  I mulled over those Tevas for awhile trying to decide if I’d really wear them.  And they have come in so handy!  At the pool, at the river, outside in general.  And I weirdly get a lot of compliments on them.  (Blue or gold ones are on sale right now!)  The culottes were more expensive than my usual purchases, but I’m making them worthwhile.  They are so comfy and go with just about everything in my closet.  And those overall cutoffs from 1995??  It makes me laugh that I can get away with them right now.

How are your capsules coming along?  Did you predict correctly what you would love?  Did you make any changes?

  1. I’m just sitting here staring at my closet trying to wrap my head around dressing for Spring (ridiculously short here) and summer (Oct – April). We had a short trip to Mauritius in the middle of our winter so I got to wear some summer things, one of which was a romper. First for me. And I LOVED it. Beyond LOVED it, actually. So will be sourcing another one, I think… (you inspired the first one, is what I meant to say)
