The Low Sugar Lowdown: My Diet Plan

Oh the post you’ve all been waiting for! What magical hex did this girl use to lose 19 pounds all of a sudden?? I, much like you, wish it was as simple as magic. But there’s no pill or finger snapping that will make it happen. That being said, if you are in the right mindset that you want to make changes, it’s not as hard as it sounds. I was surprised how easy it was for me, once I decided I was ready.

MOM STYLE, low sugar lowdown, low sugar diet, weight lossMy food intake before I started my new diet program consisted mainly of a healthy breakfast to start my day and then processed foods for the rest of my snacks and meals. I loosely kept track of my calories, and cheated often because I like to reward myself for the hard work I put in with Stevie. My biggest treats were Diet Coke and potato chips. Neither of those have sugar, but they’re not exactly overflowing with nutrients either.

When I started the new program, I had researched several and chose the one I thought was best suited for me.  One that I felt would have lasting results and wouldn’t be a quick fix diet.  I don’t think everyone needs a program, but I knew I would.  I need rules and the whole thing laid out for me.  Dieting for Dummies, if you will.  Had to be something that was easy to follow.

The first 30 days were the most strict and the most important for my body to detox. Much like an elimination diet, you fill your tummy with unprocessed and natural foods, staying away from anything with unnatural ingredients, added sugars, and preservatives. Yes, this means no fast food, no boxed dinners, no soda or alcohol, and almost none of the usual treats I enjoyed so much.

It was a huge shift for me to do this, but when I planned my snacks and meals ahead of time, it wasn’t as difficult as I made it out to be in my head.  And even though it sounds strict, I would eat every 2-3 hours. I like eating, so that was awesome for me.

I also drink organic vegan protein shakes, and those are a complete low-calorie meal.  It’s one aspect of the program I thought I would hate, but it grew on me quickly and filled my body up with quality nutrition. Sometimes I wish I could do a shake for every single meal, because they are so easy! Twice during the month, I also did a 2-day cellular cleanse to rid my body of toxins. The cleanse made the biggest difference for me, because after that, I no longer craved soda and my appetite was noticeably smaller. I would get full and stay full much longer.

After the initial 30 days, I was a little more lenient but still tried to stay on track with healthy foods for the most part. I have continued losing weight and inches (except for a few major cheat weekends here and there). If I gain a pound or two, I get back to my regimen and my body cooperates with me, dropping the weight I’ve gained back. It’s something I will always have to be aware of if I want to maintain and I’m okay with that. I don’t feel like I’m deprived in any way. I do sometimes get discouraged with myself, but know that I’ve hit my goal weight before and I can do it again if I focus up.

MOM STYLE, low sugar lowdown, low sugar, weight lossHere’s an example of what I eat on a normal day now:

Breakfast: vegan protein shake
Snack: 2 hard boiled eggs, lightly salted
Lunch: avocado on wheat toast with triscuits and iced green tea sweetened with stevia
Snack: handful of almonds
Dinner: quick quinoa dinner with black beans, corn, and rotel
+ around 65 ounces of water

See? Lots of food. Me likey.

If I can do it, I truly believe in my heart that anyone can. I’m not an expert dieter, and I’m far from perfect, I simply educated myself and was ready for change. When I saw results, I didn’t want to stop.  If we just try to be a little more aware of what we put in our bodies, good things will happen. Whatever diet program you choose (or don’t choose) will work to its greatest potential if you eat healthy proteins, veggies, and less sugar. In my next post, I will be answering specific questions and telling you how I stay on track.

Who else is ready? What’s one thing you can change in your diet to make your insides healthier?

  1. What are your stats?
Height, weight, pants size and shirt size before and now?

    1. I’m 5’6″, weighed in at 156 before the program and have been holding steady at 137 for the last 8 months. Size 10 pants to a size 6. But the main difference is how I feel, the weight loss was a happy side effect 😉

    1. On a perfect week, I run about 1.5 miles twice and work with a trainer twice for 25-30 minutes. Tough full body workouts, but short and sweet!

    1. I have some more info coming tomorrow! Thanks for reading!

  9. I would also like more info on the program you used (heykimmi@gmail.com). Also, now how do you deal with the boredom nibbling? Do you keep any unhealthy foods in the house (for your husband and Stevie)? If so, how you do avoid temptation to snack on them?

  10. Oh I wanted to add, BRAVA! I thought you looked good before but now you are smokin!

  11. I’d like more I for on the cellular cleanse. I just started low carbing after a very carbolicious summer of travel and entertaining out of town guests my pants won’t zip! I’m particularly carb sensitive so I really have to keep it below 30 grams or I gain weight no matter how low my calorie count is. I’m on day 5 now so it gets easier from here
I’ve done diet pills in the past to further diminish my appetite but I, trying to avoid them this time around because they are costly and make me a bit hostile -lol. Not a good way to be with two children.
I’d be happy to get info on your vegan shake and your cellular cleanse. Teresaliguori310@gmail
