We made it through week one and now we’re onto week two of school. As far as I know, Stevie has handled the transition pretty well from 2nd to 3rd Grade. He’s with a new group of kids and has a new teacher and didn’t even have a meltdown in class until the end of the week.
I specify “in class” because at home has been a totally different story. Within minutes of me picking him up, he’s falling apart. I keep trying to remind myself that it’s because he’s overwhelmed and tired and holding it together all day — so I get the brunt of the attitude problem. And that seems better than the alternative.
Though it does, in turn, make me feel overwhelmed and tired too. I’ve been kind of amazed at my patience sometimes. It might be a totally different story as we get into after-school tutoring as well. Our first session was rough — and that’s putting it very kindly. So we’ll see how much longer it can go! Wish us luck!
