A Familiar Favorite

There are certain familiar outfits that hold such special memories, you can remember when you bought them or maybe where you wore them and who you were with. Even though most of them are long gone from my closet by now, I have a few favorite stand-outs in my mind. Being 15 and the first outfit I bought with my own money. What I wore to my first Dave Matthews Band concert. And a few of the early date night outfits I wore to meet up with Paul.

The one I’m wearing today also happens to be familiar and special to me. I bought the pants right before our trip to Mexico City last spring. I don’t normally condone buying clothes just for vacation — a firm believer that the clothes working well for you at home deserve a trip too — but these were just so lovely. Found them at one of my favorite little shops, BelKazan. I put them on and swished the wide leg pants all around, sauntering in front of the mirror. They made me feel like I was taking a special trip. And special it most certainly was! I raced home and sewed up the tank top to match, and they’re so great together, I hardly separate the two.

I wore this look on our second day exploring Mexico City, right before heading to Mérida. We started our day with an amazing brunch and then strolled for a long time, hand in hand, through the expansive and beautiful park, Bosque de Chapultepec. We snapped pictures and relished in our alone time without Stevie. Actual conversations were had. We slowly made our way back to the AirBnB to pack up and catch an evening flight. I wore this on the plane as we toasted champagne and headed straight into an evening of food and chatter with lovely friends, old and new. This outfit made me feel just right from start to finish and I love that wearing it brings back such fond memories.

Almost none of the items I’m wearing are currently for sale (that happens when you like to re-wear older things) but I linked to some similar ideas. The pants are the BelKazan Noah pant, if you want to search secondhand. I’ve often contemplated sewing another pair mimicking this design, they’re just so good. As for the tank, I traced an old tank I had for the pattern, but there are lots of great makers on Etsy. I recommend searching for a crop linen tank, and you’ll find some really nice options. The belt bag just gets better with time! It’s from Teddi Joelle (back when it was still called Hustle & Hide Co.)

Do you have any familiar outfits that bring up fond memories for you?
