Black and Brown Combo

Another day where I didn’t even have time to get dressed until after school around 3pm. I often wonder why I bother, but I have already lost so much of myself to parenthood — and now parenthood during a pandemic — it’s a small thing that helps me feel a teeny tiny bit grounded. If I didn’t get dressed, the self-care routine would be completely non-existent. (I workout but that’s not self-care so much as it is torture.)

I am often left thinking something has got to give. But there’s always the very stark reality that maybe it just won’t. At least not right now. This is where we are. And as much as I resist embracing any sort of new normal, there’s not a whole lot I can do to change it. I emerged from the shower and just had to stand in the bathroom for a few minutes to soak in the quiet and take stock of all my body aches. I reviewed the long, stressful day in my head and quickly realized why my back hurt so bad. Curled my hair, did some meal planning, placed a grocery order, and suddenly it’s 7pm. I haven’t done any housekeeping, and I guess maybe that’s where something is gonna give! Haha! #messyhouseforever

outfit details

The only thing better than a classic white shirt for any season is a good old fashioned black and brown combo. I like experimenting with unexpected color combinations, but sometimes the classics are just where it’s at! Black pieces with brown accessories are so classic and easy, I don’t think I’ll ever tired of it. I chose this dress because I’m dreading the horrific 109 degree temps we will get into this weekend, and I wanted to take advantage of a breezy dress on a day when my thighs won’t sweat to death. Also, it kinda feels like a nightie, which was the next best thing to pajamas when I finally got ready. The sandals were just sitting by my bed and they looked too cute to resist.

anti-racism notes

I don’t have a lot to offer today, but then again, I promised I wouldn’t try to be a teacher anyway. I get carried away sometimes. Regardless, when I couldn’t sleep early this morning, I got caught up on Anti-Racism Daily. I’ve mentioned it here before, but thought I would link it again in case you missed it. Awesome resource, with prompts and actions, that comes directly to your inbox.

  1. Oh, I forgot to ask about your mirror. I am thinking about getting one on the wider side but like the one you have as well. It’s hard to visualize sometimes on the shopping sites with the lighting etc.

    Thank you

    1. The mirror is called the IKORNNES from Ikea 🙂 And thank you for the nice message and for relating to this weird time.

  2. I have similar feelings as well. Is there where we will be and if so for how long? I ebb and flow between being content with the state of things and feeling almost a sense of dread.

    This too shall pass.

I love this look and am encouraged to replicate it and maybe just wear it around the house.

    Enjoy your evening,

    Shon
