A Closet Hero

Today we had a big ophthalmology appointment for Stevie. These visits are now done annually vs. monthly or quarterly when he was a wee one. But I totally forgot how long the appointments can go. This year, his eyes needed to be dilated, and I’m sure you can imagine how that went. He simply didn’t want to do it. And sometimes trying to explain these things to a sobbing almost 10-year old just doesn’t work. So bribery was quick to come into play. With the help of a little Starbucks Pink Drink, we got it done and nearly 3 hours later were headed home with good news.

Stevie needs new specs with a lower prescription! When I exclaimed that I was surprised, the doc said “well his eyes are growing, and overall everything looks really good and healthy.” Phew! The kiddo has his heart set on some green frames, which surprised and delighted me. I can’t wait to get them in a few weeks.

outfit details

I kinda fell off the #monthlystylechallenge (hosted by Jess Ann Kirby) wagon over the weekend. But today’s prompt was to show a “closet hero”. I think there’s no mistake that I chose this awesome jumpsuit this morning, even though I hadn’t planned for the challenge. It has been with me for a few years now, and it’s definitely the most complimented piece of clothing I own. It actually used to be pants. But I bought this exact jumpsuit again in a different fabric and turned this one into comfy shorts. I honestly don’t even know how many times it’s been worn because I bought it before I started tracking. But it’s up there!

anti-racism notes

We have a “fire season” here in California, so I’m well aware of the need for firefighters. What I learned for the first time this year is that inmates are helping to fight those big blazes, often without the hope of ever being hired as actual firefighters once they’re released from prison. A bill just passed this past week in CA that will hopefully change that, and give people (namely Black and Hispanic men) more equal opportunity once they have served a sentence and are released.
