The Grammy Museum at LA Live

It’s been awhile since I’ve taken Stevie anywhere new, because… well… you know. Stevie.  I almost said “he’s too unpredictable”, but actually, no.  That’s wrong.  He is so predictable that I know we’re not going to have that much fun.  So I’ve been sticking to the usual activities that involve trains and playgrounds and… I guess that’s pretty much it.

However, with a couple rainy days here in L.A. I had to get a little more creative.  So I searched around the internet for “Things to do when it rains in LA” and stole other peoples’ creative ideas.  One thing that kept popping up on every list was the Grammy Museum.  Of course I wanted to go, but was unsure if it would be worth the time and trouble with the boss kid.  So I scrapped the idea, but a bunch of police activity in the neighborhood prevented us from going to our usual spots.  Never a dull moment!  So I took that as a sign and off to the Grammy Museum we went after all.  Lord help us. (And whoever was in all that trouble with the cops, right?)

The museum is at LA Live, so we grabbed lunch first at SmashBurger and then walked right over.  It is great. Really cool with plenty of interesting things to look at and music to listen to.  I didn’t actually see any of those cool things (hello Tupac exhibit!) but we all knew that would happen.  However, Stevie really enjoyed some stuff I didn’t expect.

He put headphones on and played drums for a few solid minutes!!  I didn’t even think he’d wear the headphones, let alone play, but he did.  And he seemed to have a blast.  He hit a couple notes on the keytar too, but the drums were definitely the favorite.

Then he danced, danced, danced at the Taylor Swift Experience on the light-up dance floor.  He loved the sensory input so much, he eventually just had to lay his face right on the ground to feel the beats and see the lights up close.  So yeah, we were at that one for a long time.  And there’s only one song on the playlist…  After about 42 repeats of Shake It Off, I was like ooookay, that’s enough.  He was sad to leave so I promised to play it again in the car ONE MORE TIME. (3 more times.)

While we didn’t do a ton, we were still there about 45 minutes and that was good enough for me.  Hooray!  Stevie tried something new and mommy didn’t feel like crying after!
