Palm Springs

Well praise be, we had a relatively easy run with Covid. I am so sympathetic to those who had a rougher go. It’s sad to think about the suffering and loss surrounding this virus. Stevie had some mild sniffles and he still has a very mild cough (mostly in the mornings). Paul and I have not contracted it yet. We were pretty shocked, frankly. It was a strange mindset to be waiting and wondering. There was even a day in the middle of Stevie’s quarantine where I accidentally ate from his spoon and then gasped as I realized what I had done. I knelt down, holding up the spoon and yelled NOOOOOO! Real main-character-of-a-drama vibes. But we stayed negative and once Stevie finally tested negative again, he was able to head back to school.

I tell you, it was just in the nick of time too!! Not only was I feeling super triggered by homeschool again, but I had a trip to Palm Springs planned with two of my favorite ladies, Andrea and Paige. We encountered all types of obstacles making this trip happen — a canceled AirBnB, a bunch of rearranged flights, covid scares, then ACTUAL covid, and a car that wouldn’t start. The vacay was doomed, so it would seem. But we persevered — as I image the pioneers did long ago — and made it to Palm Springs! Well, Cathedral City, but close enough. It was all worth it to see them again. I loved our fast-fire conversations around the kitchen island, the quiet time by the pool, and lots and lots of laughs. I couldn’t even tell you what we laughed about, but it felt so good. And went by too fast.

I spent this last week getting back into the swing of things. Catching up on laundry and cleaning and meal prep, meeting with Stevie’s social worker, setting up various doctor appointments, starting a new puzzle, and turning 43. It feels mostly the same as 42, except my second day as a 43-year old I woke up really tired for no reason. Like more tired than the usual tired, which is more tired than I ever felt in my life up until now. So that should be a fun thing to look forward to — a new bar of tiredness. But I have some other things to look forward to as well. I won’t go quietly into the night!! Well, until about 10:30 or so. Then it just feels soooo good to lie down.

Let me know if you have any questions about Palm Springs!
