Round Sunglasses (and Voting Matters!)

We had a fairly productive weekend for a change. On Saturday, we spent some time emptying the in-laws garage because of a water leak. And then Sunday, I had the URGE TO PURGE. I only got around the cleaning out Stevie’s room, but his is the worst one in the house! So it felt good to get that done and checked off the list.

outfit details

Very relaxed vibes today, round sunglasses to hide my tiredness and I didn’t even want to tuck in my shirt! Like I’m some kind of animal! Haha. And speaking of round sunglasses, I’m loving these. I’ve had my eye on the Ray-Ban version for like 3 years, but I was never comfortable justifying the price. My other pair of Ray-Bans are prescription lenses that cost a small freakin’ fortune. But since I like that wayfarer style, I just replace the lenses every 2 years. Then my friend Karen shared these round sunglasses, and they definitely caught my eye, since they are so similar to the fancy shades. It’s always nice to have a cheapy pair hanging around that you don’t have to be so careful with at the beach and places like that.

allyship notes

Y’all. Less than 100 days until the election and we gotta talk about voting. This will be somewhat brief as I don’t have time to dive into every topic that I should. But please read and keep in mind, I’m not great at talking about this stuff. It’s a tough subject and a very personal one. So I don’t want to mince words or make you feel like I’m telling you who to vote for. But I’ll tell you who I’m voting for and why.

If you’re a woman who would rather vote for nobody than vote for Biden or Trump, I hear you. I really do. In many ways I’m a democrat through and through, but politics have always been a struggle for me and I’m not naive to the issues in my party. In fact, I never voted until 2016 because it all seemed so… stupid. But here we are. I vote in every election now, and will use my privilege to vote responsibly. And I would encourage you to do the same.

Ridin’ with Biden

I will definitely be voting for Biden. (And really hoping he chooses a kick-ass VP.) At times, I honestly struggled to defend the decision. It was feeling less like a vote for Biden and more like a vote AGAINST Trump. And is that the right thing to do? (Yes haha) But the alternative would be voting third party. If enough people do that, you can guarantee another win for 45. And honestly? I just can’t. Even if the two-party system seems outdated, it’s what we’ve got right now. I can take solace in the fact that Biden at least has political experience. But outside of that, I’ve had to dig into policies and see where we align. And the good news is, we line up in more ways than not.

If you’re conservative, I would ask you to look past single-issue voting, (AKA reproductive rights) and also look at how the other major policies affect people across the board. Obviously a big trigger for me is disability rights, and Biden’s plan is good. It’s better than good — it’s excellent. It actually made me beam as I was reading it. When I imagine Stevie being treated with dignity as he reaches adulthood over the next decade, it makes me so hopeful. And it doesn’t end there. I’m hoping to see Biden follow through with policy change regarding voting rights, mental health services, equality for the LGBTQ+ community, immigration, violence against women, clean energy and climate change, small businesses (specifically Black-owned small businesses), and education. Not to mention the President will appoint our next Supreme Court judge once RGB is gone.

Listen, I won’t even ask you to look past rumors of corruption and imperfections (as we have been doing for hundreds of years with every politician). People are imperfect, and there’s always the possibility that Biden is no saint either. I know there is little we can do at this point to hold politicians accountable for every transgression. I hate that as much as you do. But speaking as an empath, bleeding heart kinda mama, I truly believe to care for our fellow citizens it is not only our right, but also our responsibility to vote accordingly. And it’s a good thing to question the people in charge.

Wherever your ethics, morals, and beliefs fall, do your due diligence (outside of what your friends on Facebook say), research the policies you care about, and most importantly — VOTE. Let’s be kind to each other as we travel this rocky road. Isn’t it weird that we’re the adults now making all these decisions??? Who put us in charge??? LOL.
