Studded Sandals

Welp. It’s Friday night. I got dressed for about 2 hours today to make a post office run and pick up some dinner. WOW! I’m keeping my fingers crossed that Stevie will take a little swim and maybe even sit through 15-20 minutes of a movie tonight. Then maybe we will feel like the weekend is beginning. I will say this. I was very relieved when school was done today. A definitive end to the school week. I used to dread weekends a little bit because they can be so demanding of my energy. But hell, now that Stevie is home all the time, it can’t be any worse than the rest of the week! Haha!

outfit details

These studded sandals were another very exciting secondhand find. They are still available at Nordstrom, Zappos and one lonely size 7 on the Steve Madden site. So I was super surprised when I started researching them, looking for outfit ideas, and lo and behold — THE ONES I WANTED, IN MY SIZE, IN NEW CONDITION popped up on Poshmark. Damn, I love when that happens. Of course it’s a little risky since you’re not able to try things on, but if you generally know your size with certain brands, you can buy with a little more confidence. These studded sandals are also a far cry from my very plain style of the past few years. I’ve mentioned before that my basics are nailed down, and now I am wanting to add a few fun pieces. And these really make me smile.

anti-racism notes

I haven’t really been able to wrap my head around the shooting of Jacob Blake. It is still so shocking to me that with the whole world watching, this type of blatant behavior still takes place. And on top of that, there are people defending the shooting! I saw one of my right-wing acquaintances post a link to the 6th Amendment (the right to a fair trial and due process), saying that we are being too harsh to judge the officer and we need to let him have his day in court. But all I could think of were all the Black men who never had the opportunity to put that amendment to use or defend themselves in court because their lives were cut short. And this doesn’t even begin to cover the problems with unfair trials, immunity for officers, and harsher sentencing for Black people. Sigh.
