Welcome Spring

This week felt ultra-productive, any guesses why? Well! I got dressed and left the house exactly twice to get my hair done AND go to a doctor’s appointment. Haha. If you’d asked me in the before times, that would’ve been a really slow couple days, let alone week. The doctor probably also felt like a big task because I just don’t love going to the doctor. A new doctor for me, so I was a little nervous. However, I was very relieved to have it off my to-do list. I have to get my blood work and a couple other things done now, but the ball is rolling. And the nice thing about this doctor is she already set up a follow-up for me in 3 weeks, so it gives me a deadline to take care of myself before I see her again. I like when other people help me be accountable.

Now we start our spring break! I know I should be excited and I know it will be fine. But ugh. Breaks are rough on this kid of mine. So, as with any time off — where I have to entertain Stevie endlessly — pray. But with spring, also comes a sense of renewal. I’m hopeful that the new season will help me feel a little different. Of course I’m cautiously optimistic, since not much has changed other than the title of the season. But it’s nice to even have a glimmer of optimism.

Unlearning

Anti-racism work never really stops. But on a week like this, where race motivates killing, it sure kicks it into high gear. We are thankfully flooded with resources, charities, and helpful information. We are forced to reframe our thinking when the news reports a certain way. We put a magnifying glass on the missed opportunities or the things we should have been doing all along. I, for one, am so overwhelmed with gratitude for those who put their own comfort aside to teach us in times of trauma. I know I have mentioned this show before, but last night I finished the Amend series on Netflix. It was an excellent history lesson for me, and I didn’t expect it to effect me so much emotionally. Watching the episode on immigration was especially raw because of the way Asians have been treated in this country for so long. If you have any doubts that systemic racism exists, I really encourage studying these types of history lessons so that we can continue to learn and share that education.

Going

Amir’s Garden is pretty much the perfect late afternoon hike if you’re around the Griffith Park area. Parking is easy, the hike is relatively short, and there’s lots to explore in the immediate area. We’ve done this one a couple times when we got a later start and I’d love to spend more time there to explore the little trails and picnic areas all around. Last time we were there, I saw a group of girls who had hiked up with their wine and charcuterie plate to have a picnic. And I thought it was just about the best idea I’d ever seen.

Buying

This last week I ordered a few pair of pants to try. I love my pleated shorts from last summer so much, I thought something similar in a long pants option would be good for spring. I also love the “big pants energy” my friend Andrea has been sporting and was curious to try the trend. At first glance, it’s really hard to get used to any of these new silhouettes, so I liked the most basic pair. But as I play around with the styling, I’m getting used to the idea and now it’s just making my decision harder. I’ll probably do a style session before sending anything back, but these are just the initial try-on photos I sent to my friends to help me decide.

That’s all for this week — I’m sure you’ll get an earful about my mood after Spring Break. And help me pick some pants yeah? Which pair do you like?

loves,
jaana

  1. I just added green cargo pants to my spring capsule. They are Gap, at least four years old. They’ve been in and out of the donation pile many time. For some odd reason, I hung on to them!
