Denim Jacket

Well. It’s July. I don’t really know how I feel about that. On one hand, this is shaping up to be a terrible summer, but it’s still going by pretty fast. And the faster we get this year over the better! Haha! Stevie is finishing up his last week of summer school, on the heels of record high coronavirus cases in L.A. and an all but canceled 4th of July. It’s a weird time as we go from pausing life to living a new normal. People are angry around here. We are seeing grown adults throw full-on tantrums left and right. And I’m just tired. It almost makes me glad we are a high-risk family and feel safer at home than we do anywhere else. Y’all have fun. We’ll just be here. Forever.

outfit notes

A good denim jacket is hard to find! I know because I’ve owned every style, length, wash, and color at some point or another. But since I settled on this one a few years ago, I’ve been pretty pleased with it. Of course in the summer, I sort of wish it was a slightly more distressed or bleached out denim jacket, but I can always switch it for my light wash chambray to serve that purpose. This jacket is a solid classic and that’s the sort of thing that seems to stick around in my closet the longest. It has a slightly oversized fit, so you’ll be safe in your usual size.

allyship notes

I finally got around to watching the independent film (in)visible Portraits, and it was powerful to hear these women’s accounts of what it’s like to be a Black activist, teacher, mother, etc. in this day and age. The film serves as a beautiful love letter to Black women, and I highly recommend it. I also thought I’d mention, if you’re looking for a place to donate funds for a safer community, I think the KSLA birthing center is a great way to do that. Black women are 3x’s more likely to die during childbirth than white women, so it’s important to create a space that will help Black women feel more safe.
