Monochrome Outfit

Hope everyone who is starting school is doing okay so far! I’ve been so tuned out from time and dates that I didn’t even really realize it was coming up so soon. Today we picked up Stevie’s class supplies from his teacher, and virtual learning starts Monday. While we know what to expect this time around vs. what happened in March, I still got that little wave of anxiety. Oh shit. This is happening. Ugh. I had a full month to process it, but apparently I am still not prepared!

outfit details

Usually with a jumpsuit like this, I like to wear contrasting shoes (like white or a lighter brown) to give the outfit some extra visual interest. But I’m learning that a monochrome outfit can be just as impactful, if not more so. It’s sleek with no competing details and kind of gives me a sense of calm when I look at it. Which is a nice break for my busy brain. I recently took down some of the patterned curtains in my house for a similar reason. I needed a break from the visual noise. If a monochrome outfit works for my body, it can work for my house too.

allyship notes

I am always one for a good checklist, like this article entitled 7 Things Californians Can Do Right Now to Fight Structural Racism. This article is from back in June, but sometimes — especially when I’m feeling a little stuck — referring to an article like this can give me a refresh. What’s one thing I can do today? Donate $5 or $10 to a favorite charity. Sign a petition. Get educated on political issues that affect Black people, for instance voter suppression. Not every day is a grand learning experience, but creating little habits will help adjust my thinking over the long haul.

  1. Hopefully, Stevie’s school has started. “They” have changed the school plans (including start date) for my son repeatedly for the past few months. Thanks to reading about Kumon on your blog, my son has been doing OK there, with half-time in person and half-time virtual. He is rather far below his “official” grade level, but they are NOT allowing him to use a calculator, so he really has to understand the problems. Since his Kumon center is corporate owned (as opposed to a franchise), this may not hold true at all locations. In fashion comments, I was wondering what your opinion is of the striped tie pants. Are they hard to keep on?

    1. Hey Anne! Stevie’s school started yesterday, I’m sorry that they’ve changed plans on you so many times. It seems impossible to keep up. I’m glad you’re able to do Kumon. I found in the past year, Stevie has learned far more basic skills from that than he could at school, but we really miss school for the socialization of course. As for the striped pants, they are not hard to keep on, though they do take a bit of practice to tie properly so they’re comfortable and secure. I believe the maker has a tutorial on her instagram that I referred to when I first got them. They are a bit different, but easy to get the hang of!
