transitional style

I guess these days the only times you’ll see me get dressed before dinner time is when I skip my morning workout, in an attempt to feel human and somewhat pulled together. I know I talk about self-care a lot and how important it is for me to simply get dressed. But the self-care has become far less routine and much more luxury lately. I’m sure you can relate! And while usually I know what I need to do to feel my best, I’m so all over the place that I honestly have no idea what will make me feel better on any given day. Today getting dressed before school seemed like it would help. Not sure if it actually did or not. We’re still just… here.

outfit details

Whenever I think of transitional style for Fall, my mind wanders to glorious oversized sweaters and cute booties. But we all know by now that Southern California won’t see the likes of oversized sweaters for another month (or more)! So for years I’ve had to drag my fantasies back down to earth and reconsider what transitional style works for real life Fall. Sometimes I can get away with jeans, but mostly it just means throwing a light jacket over a trusty summer outfit — and promptly removing the jacket by 11am.

These outfits are all part of my current capsule wardrobe, which can be found here. This post contains affiliate links, and makes it possible for me to earn a small commission.

anti-racism notes

Remember in school when you learned about the civil rights movement and the desegregation of schools and it all felt like it was soooo long ago? I have constant reminders now that it wasn’t as long ago as it seemed when we were kids. One example of that, is this article about Ruby Bridges. She was the first Black child to integrate into a white school — and she’s only currently 66 years old! She works as an activist to this day.

  1. Wow, I can’t believe how hard Ruby Bridge’s experience was. (I’m Australian & didn’t know this before). What an incredible child and what a lonely experience school must have been for her. Thanks for sharing, Jaana.
