Rainy Day Outfit

When I was planning for my summer capsule, I certainly wasn’t anticipating any rainy day weather. We had lots of rain in April, which was kinda torture during those first few weeks of quarantine. No outside play, no walks — just depressing news and depressing weather on top of it all. But once it cleared up, I figured it would stay away for the rest of the season.

That being said, we do still sometimes get “May Gray” and “June Gloom” here in Southern California. It’s not exactly cold, but it’s not really shorts and t-shirt kinda weather either. If it wasn’t for that, I can’t imagine I’d need a sweater or jacket or anything even close to that. But I threw in a couple cool weather pieces just to round the whole thing out. It came in handy today! And I wasn’t even mad about another rainy day. It was a nice break, a peaceful way to start the week. Bonus: it’ll be gone tomorrow.

outfit notes

If I remember right, this shirt was my first foray into sewing with raw silk, which is a dream. It was definitely inspired by the beautiful Georgia tee from (now closed) Elizabeth Suzann. I use her pieces as inspiration quite often. The reason I started sewing in the first place was because I love her clothes so much. I didn’t use a pattern, and it was one of those projects that just kind of miraculously came together without too many mistakes or stitch rips. Now a couple years later, I wish it was about 2 inches longer for a solid tuck. But it was definitely the style I was going for when I made it.

The jacket is a secondhand Abercrombie find from one of my favorite online vintage shops Stylish Treasures and is now a couple years old as well. And while I have you, it’s worth noting that these Madwell jeans are sized down 2 sizes from my usual Levi’s size. The secondhand Old Skool vans run TTS.

That’s all for today! Stevie and his hope for a giant Hot Wheels track are calling my name! Hope your Monday is off to a pleasant start.

loves,
jaana
